Thursday, April 27, 2006, 6pm Author Talk/Discussion Leonard Kniffel author of "A Polish Son in the Motherland: An American's Journey Home" Jungman Branch Library 5830 Westheimer Houston, TX 77057 832-393-1860 Information about the book and Mr. Kniffel: Why do Americans come to Poland? What are they looking for? Author and Editor Leonard Kniffel will offer one explanation as he talks about his new book, A Polish Son in the Motherland: An American's Journey Home. The travel memoir, released by Texas A & M University Press, is the sometimes comic, sometimes sad saga of a search for roots and what it means to be Polish. In trying to explain why so many American children and grandchildren of Poles have lost touch with their roots, the author presents a view of everyday life in Poland through American eyes. Mr. Kniffel will talk about the six months he spent living in the Polish town of Nowe Miasto Lubawskie and share some of the stories told to him by the friends he made and the family he eventually found. Mr. Kniffel is the editor and publisher of American Libraries, the magazine of the American Library Association. Born and raised in Michigan, he holds masters degrees in English and Library Science from Wayne State University in Detroit. He now lives and works in Chicago. |
