Eighteen-year-old Chinese
pianist Amy Jiaqi Yang is the First Prize Winner of national and international
competitions including: The International Sonata-Sonatina Youth Piano
Competition, The RSO/Lennox Young Artists Competition, The International Chopin
Piano Competition in Corpus Christi, The International Corpus Christi Young
Artists’ Competition, where she also received the Lichtenstein Foundation
Award and the grand Mary Hope Brennecke Piano Award, and most recently, The
National Chopin Piano Competition of the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York City.
Amy has given concerts in the U.S. and abroad in cities such as Houston,
Corpus Christi, Dallas, New York City, and Zielona Gora (Poland), Górzow Wlkp.
(Poland), Kozuchow (Poland), and Hanover. She
has played in Stude Concert Hall and Carnegie Recital Hall and has been guest
soloist with symphony orchestras including: Symphony North, Baytown Symphony,
Woodlands Symphony, Richardson Symphony, Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra,
and the Lubuska Symphonietta. Her
performances have been heard on radio broadcasts on KUHF-FM and WQXR-FM (New
York City). In the summer of 2002,
Amy was invited as a guest artist by the Lubus International Chamber Music
Festival and gave solo concerts as well as concerts with orchestras in Poland. In
September of 2002, Amy made her debut with the Houston Symphony under the baton
of Mariusz Smolij.
In 2003, Amy will make her debut with the Corpus Christi Symphony
Orchestra and give a recital for the Fryderyk Chopin Society of Texas, among
others.
Amy’s previous teachers are her father, Hua Yang, and Qing Li.
She resumed piano studies with Professor Timothy Hester at the University
of Houston, after she came to the United States in 1995.
A recipient of merit-based full-tuition scholarship, Amy, under the
tutelage of Mr. Claude Frank, is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Music degree
at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia.
