Cy-Fair College Welcomes Lech Walesa, Former President of Poland
 

 
Cypress, Texas (Sept. 27, 2004) Nobel Peace Prize winner, leader of the Solidarity movement, and the first democratically elected president of the Republic of Poland, Lech Walesa, will speak at Cy-Fair College Oct. 25 at 12:15 p.m., in the Center for the Arts.

             His presentation is titled “After the Wall, Building a New Europe of Peace and Prosperity,” and the event is open to the community. In a college environment that supports lifelong learning, it is only fitting that Cy-Fair College provide such a special international guest lecture for cultural enrichment in the community.

            Community members, along with special guests and dignitaries, will join students, faculty and staff to hear guest speaker President Walesa, who served as president of Poland until 1995. He has received worldwide praise for his leadership of the Solidarity movement, and he was named “Man of the Year” by Time Magazine, The London Observer, L’Express, and others.

 President Walesa is in Texas to commemorate the 150^th anniversary of the first permanent Polish community in America, started in 1854 in Panna Maria, just south of San Antonio. 

This special lecture is free to the community. Seating is limited in the Center for the Arts, but a remote television broadcast will be in the Conference Center.
