Seoul native Yoonjung Han, 20, studies at The Curtis Institute of Music with distinguished piano pedagogue Eleanor Sokoloff. She began studying piano at age five and made her solo debut in 1999 with the Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra in Sejong Concert Hall. She recently performed as a soloist with the Pottstown Symphony, Eastern Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musciali, and she has also appeared with the Yewon Chamber Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Juilliard Pre-College Orchestra. In 1998, Kyung Hyang Newspaper praised her, “Poetic playing!” In 2001, Korea Herald acclaimed her, “A great talent and a fabulous interpretation…” She received The Most Promising Young Artist Award from the Korean Minister of Culture. The recipient of numerous awards, Yoonjung won first prize in the 2005 Kosciuszko Foundation Chopin Competition and second prize and special award for the youngest semifinalist at the Concorso Pianistico Internazionale Ettore Pozzoli. She has also received first prizes in the Juilliard Mozart Piano Concerto Competition, Juilliard Frederich Nordmann Piano Competition, Music Teacher’s National Association Competition in Eastern Division, Friday Woodmere Music Competition, Korea Daily Newspaper Competition, I-hwa Kyung Hyang Music Competition, and Korea Herald Competition. Yoonjung has appeared on both WQXR’s and NPR’s young artist showcases. In 2001, she received the grand prize in the Korea National Competition. Yoonjung has participated in many master classes led by world renowned artists including Paul Pollei, Nelita True, Natalya Antonova, Gary Graffman, Cloud Frank, Boaz Sharon, John Nakamatsu, Hans Leigraf, Robert McDonald, Christopher Elton and Zhou Guangren, etc. Her performance has been placed at the Juilliard Theater, Curtis Field Concert Hall, San Rocco Theater in Milan, University of Florida, Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, Stone Church of Art, Kumho Arts Hall and Villa Bertramka Mozart Museum in Czech Republic.
