Bozena Burzym - Chawinska

Presence/Absence

First Houston exhibition of works by Bozena  Burzym - Chawinska, a painter and photographer based in Krakow, Poland.

The Opening Reception for the Artist will take place on Friday, April 19, 6: 00 - 9:00 p.m.,   at the gallery, 1740 Sunset Boulevard, Houston, Texas, 77005.

The artist's work is essentially concerned with the human figure, not simply as a genre or a traditional theme, but as the symbol of her fascination with the process of internal transformation. The quality of pure line, very apparent in her paintings, is combined with carefully balanced color (signature use of blues and yellows with occasional reds). In paintings with multiple figures, some fully resolved, others transparent, it is the disconnection, the space and distance between them, which is the most important and powerful aspect of the works.

The new digital images - photographs of the artist's works - printed on small squares of photographic paper, can be arranged by the viewer in a variety of ways, thus creating installations described by the artist as "Sentimentally Logical Puzzles". The aura of mystery and drama present in both the paintings and the photographic installations reinforces the artist's statement of a universal truth within relationships.

The Gallery is located at 1740 Sunset Blvd.
Regular Hours are Tuesday - Saturday, 10:30 - 6:00 p.m.
